After graduating high school in 2014, Colby Moore spent the next chapter of his life playing division I football for the Kansas State Wildcats. While the four-year letterman and team captain experienced an exciting and memorable collegiate athletic career while playing for Hall of Fame Coach Bill Snyder, he also earned his undergraduate degree along with his MBA (Master of Business Administration) from a well-respected institution.

Throughout his time at Kansas State, and as his busy schedule allowed, Colby assisted his dad Mike, a long-time racer, with his dirt track modified. The father/son duo enjoyed their time together while racing with Dad driving and son as crew; yet both knew the day would come when it was Colby’s turn to get behind the wheel. Little did they know that time would be sooner than later.

“My dad always told me that I would get to drive someday, but I had other things to dedicate myself to first. There will be plenty of time to race later, he would tell me”, Colby stated. Whether it was preparing the car throughout the week or tweaking on it at the track it was enjoyable; and provided time for the two to spend together. Colby continued, “Although my dad’s health situation was not welcomed, the opportunity for me to drive sure was!”

Recently, his dad encountered a personal setback when not just one; but two surgeries were required to fix an ailing back that had troubled him for several years. Still in recovery and while laying in bed, an agreement was made that the time had come for Colby to get his long-awaited opportunity to drive, but there was a catch. Colby said, “My dad told me I could drive one of our cars, but just like when I told him that I wanted to play football in college, he told me I had to own it. The car now belonged to me, and so did all the other responsibilities that come along with it, including paying all the expenses.”

In a relatively short time and with limited experience, Colby has shown great promise as a racecar driver. First in a modified and now a late model, he has steadily moved up the ranks, now occasionally competing in the sport’s top series, World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil. In 2023, and continuing to race on a limited schedule and budget, he will continue his quest with his sights set to participate in several races across the Midwest and South.

There is tremendous up-side to Colby’s racing career. Not only is he a naturally talented driver, but he has also formed a bond and gets advice from one of the sports best, Jimmy Owens. In 2023 he has added Patriot Mobile and OWLFI Financial Services to his KL Concrete and Construction, 1492 Coachworks, Blueville Nursery sponsored 19m Black Diamond Chassis. “I love racing! Right now we don’t race as much as the guys who do it for a living so we are at a little bit of a disadvantage. One, I can’t afford to do it as much as I would like; and two, more importantly, I have other priorities like being a good husband and having a good job. It’s just not the most important thing to concern myself with right now, as my dad would say. But make no mistake, even though we don’t race a full schedule, I do take it seriously when time allows!”, Colby concluded.
